All camera systems need power. Your vehicles cameras are no different. Along with power the camera also needs a trigger, an action that will cause that camera view to appear on the screen. Most cameras will power on when the vehicle is turned on. This includes cameras that are hard wired or those that just plug into your cigarette lighter.
The cameras trigger will vary depending on the type of camera being used. If it is a backup camera the trigger for the camera is when you place your vehicle in reverse. If it’s a front camera the trigger will activate when the vehicle is switched into drive. A blind spot camera’s trigger will initiate when you activate the turn signal switch. If your using a dash cam the trigger might initialize when the sensor in the camera detects a harsh movement.
You can add any of these types of cameras to your vehicle. The installation on every vehicle is different. Some vehicles can have the new cameras integrated into the factory display or rearview mirror. While others vehicles will require the replacement of the radio receiver or the rearview mirror to accommodate the new cameras. Almost all cameras can be hooked up to a secondary display if you don’t mind a second screen on top of your dashboard.
In order to install these camera systems into your vehicle there are some steps we follow for every installation.
